Amie Carter was raised on Long Island in the town of Huntington. In grade school she attended the Harborfields School System. She then attended and graduated from S.U.N.Y. Maritime College with a B.S. in Facilities Engineering and her U.S. Merchant Mariner (Engine) License. Amie has worked in various engineering roles from sailing on U.S. flagged vessels as an engineering officer, healthcare engineering operations in NYC, and in operations and engineering in power generation (fossil/nuclear/hydro) throughout her career. At the New York Power Authority her current position is as Mechanical Engineer with the Hydropower Mechanical Team within NYPA Engineering. The primary focus NYPA Engineering, as a whole, is to provide central design, technical oversight, and authority for all equipment additions, upgrades, modifications, construction, and O&M support for all transmission, substation, and generating facilities.

 

Amie is active with Maritime College, taught there for 2 years as a lecturer, and with the Alumni Association to assist with recruitment and mentoring of prospective and current cadets and students. She is also an active volunteer with the NYPA Environmental Justice Team and other various outreach opportunities provided by NYPA for the communities. In her spare time, she enjoys photography and learning about New York State history.
