William Choi is the Director of Supplier Diversity at the New York Power Authority (NYPA). He is responsible for developing and managing the NYPA and NYS Canals Corporation's Supplier Diversity program aligned with Vision 2030 DEI goals to support the nation's largest state-owned utility company. As NYPA's supplier diversity liaison to the State of New York, Mr. Choi works closely with government agencies and business resource organizations to assist the MWBE and SDVOB community, including promoting contract opportunities and providing supportive business development.
Before joining NYPA, Mr. Choi held positions at The City University of New York (CUNY) and the NYC Department of Small Business Services (SBS). At CUNY, he launched the university's first supplier diversity program and was responsible for over $250 Million in non-construction spend with MWBEs and SDVOBs by hosting several successful outreach events with over 1,000 participants, creating a formalized compliance and reporting structure, and by negotiating several multimillion-dollar university contracts with significant diverse spend. He also created CUNY's Supplier Diversity Mentor-Protégé program, which connected large, highly profitable Contractors with MWBE and SDVOBs to help develop their business models and identify their businesses' core strengths and areas for improvement. At SBS, he managed the public procurement process to award economic development contracts for business, workforce, and neighborhood development to support the Agency's mission. Mr. Choi remains passionate about generating economic value through public procurement and creating long-term success for our diverse communities across the State.
